Mercedes-Benz Gallery Berlin: Ausstellung “Speed and Spirit” mit Fotografien von Zoltán Glass

Die Mercedes-Benz Gallery in Berlin zeigt aktuell die Ausstellung “Speed and Spirit” mit Fotografien von Zoltán Glass – zusammen mit traditionellen Exponaten.

Bereits im Eingangsbereich zeigt die Sonderausstellung “Speed and Spirit” in der Mercedes-Benz Gallery in Berlin eine Einführung in die Ausstellung, sowie eine Biografie des Fotografen Zoltán Glass, der am 26. April 1902 in Budapest geboren worden ist. Glas – der “Picasso der Kamera” genannt wurde, wurde u.a. durch seine Renn- und Automobilphotos bekannt, die er ab 1931 erstellte. 1948 erstellte er in seinem Studio in Londons Künstlerviertel Chelsea Werbeaufnahmen, 1949 für Magazine wie den Observer, Black Star oder Picture Post – sowie für ausländische Zeitschriften, u.a. ür Life in den USA. Fotografiert hatte er bis zu seinen Tod im Januar 1981 für einige bekannte Werbeagenturen.

Die Ausstellung zeigt Photographien, die von Zoltán Glass überwiegend als Auftragsarbeiten für die Daimler-Benz AG in den 1930er Jahren geschaffen wurden. Neben Bildern von Automobilmessen und Aufnahmen von Technik-details sind vor allem historische Kostbarkeiten aus der Renngeschichte zu bewundern. Die Leidenschaft, das Flair, die Stimmung und Emotion werden in den Photographie lebendig.

Atmosphärische Dichte, ein großes Gespür für Perspektive aber auch Spontanität und Situationskomik zeichnen die Photographien von Glass aus: Manfred von Brauchitsch im Cockpit seines vibrierenden Silberpfeils kurz vor dem Start zum Großen Preis von Deutschland 1934 unter den Blicken von tausenden Zuschauern; die rasanten Konturen eines Mercedes-Benz W 25; oder die Neugierigen, die durch den Zaunspalt einen Blick auf die Rennbahn erhaschen.
